Introduction to PreViser™

The following overview provides a basic introduction to the application:

What is PreViser™ and what is a RiskCalculator™?

The PreViser™ product suite currently offers three coordinated diagnostic decision support tools that address the majority of diagnostic treatment decisions made in dentistry. The first is built around the RiskCalculator™ for gum disease (periodontal risk and disease), the second is built around the RiskCalculator™ for tooth disease (caries, fracture, and root surface risk), and the third is the RiskCalculator™ for oral cancer.

What does it do?

There are two main functions of the RiskCalculator™ tool for the individual user:

  • Assigns a quantitative Risk Score for various oral conditions
  • Produces a suggested Treatment Option Plan to reduce those risks and treat current disease

What Risks does it measure and score?

A PreViser Risk Assessment combines specific pieces of information from an individual's medical history and clinical observation, running this data through a patented process to produce a targeted prediction of future risk for disease.

Each of the three tools produces a different set of Risk Scores which appear on the reports. The Periodontal Risk Assessment produces scores for Periodontal disease risk and severity, and the Caries Risk Assessment produces risk scores related to Caries, Tooth Fracture, and Root Surface damage, and the Oral Cancer Risk Assessment produces a risk score related to oral cancer.

Please refer to the Risk Score documentation in the PreViser Overview chapter and the Appendix for information about the specific conditions the Risk Scores reflect.

How does it work?

PreViser™ is a Windows-based application that allows remote users to enter specific patient information gathered during a standard exam and receive an assessment of future dental health, using PreViser's proprietary algorithms.

Clinical data and medical history is entered into a computer at your dental office, then transmitted over the Internet to a central application server for processing. The results of the calculations are used to generate a report on optional treatment strategies that can lower patient risk. Reports can be viewed on your computer or printed for your patients and files.
